Midtown High Rise Desk
A Custom Floating Desk for a Vintage PC
In this Midtown Atlanta high-rise residence, a custom desk needed to serve a distinctly personal purpose: accommodate the client’s original 1983 PC setup while fitting seamlessly into a carefully finished home. Following a client introduction from Nancy Felton of NF Design, A+V Design Group developed the entire desk design and brought the piece to life through custom fabrication and installation.
Design Brief
The client wanted a desk tailored to his vintage computer equipment, with materials that matched the existing kitchen cabinetry and living room feature wall. Using the same high-end custom material was essential to making the new piece feel connected to the rest of the interior.
Design Challenge
One side of the desk needed to float completely while supporting the computer and other desktop contents. Achieving that open appearance required a support solution that worked with the home’s concrete column without compromising the design.
Results
We fabricated a custom metal bracket anchored into the concrete column to support the floating side. The desk combined the matching material with Blum hardware and Benjamin Moore cabinet-grade paint, bringing careful structural detailing and finely finished cabinetry together in one custom piece. The finished desk gives the client’s vintage PC setup a dedicated place within the home. Its floating form and coordinated finishes connect a highly individual functional requirement to the surrounding architecture: a piece designed around both the client’s interests and the specific demands of the space.
