Custom Stainless-Steel Steps for a Copper Tub
In the same Midtown high-rise residence as our custom floating desk project, a tall copper tub presented a different design challenge: creating a practical way to enter the bath without compromising the room’s aesthetic. Working within a project led by designer Nancy Felton of NF Design, A+V Design Group designed and crafted a set of custom stainless-steel access steps.
Design Brief
The client needed stable, thoughtfully fitted steps to make the tub easier to access. The new piece also had to complement the copper tub and its surroundings, with an appearance that felt intentional rather than added as an afterthought.
Design Challenge
Fit and footing were central to the design. The steps needed to align precisely with the tub, while the tread surfaces required texture to address the client’s concern about slickness.
Results
We carefully templated the steps to the existing tub and fabricated them in stainless steel. A textured surface on the treads was designed to improve grip, while close attention to the fit helped the piece sit seamlessly alongside the tub. The finished steps bring a practical access feature into the bathroom’s overall design. Their tailored form gives them the appearance of having been crafted together with the tub, demonstrating how precise custom metalwork can respond to an individual client’s needs while respecting an existing interior.
