East Atlanta Wine Storage
A Custom Climate-Controlled Wine Cellar & Fireplace Wall
In this East Atlanta home, built in 1956, the living room lacked a defining focal point. A+V Design Group designed and constructed a feature wall from scratch, bringing a wine cellar with dedicated temperature and humidity control and an adjoining gas fireplace together into the room’s architectural centerpiece.
Design Brief
The goal was to create an anchor for the living space that combined functional wine storage with a distinctive fireplace feature. The wine cellar stands approximately eight feet tall and three feet wide. A dedicated wine-cellar climate-control system manages temperature and humidity for long-term wine storage, with an exterior control display. This preservation function is integral to the design, alongside the presentation of the collection.
Design Challenge
We removed the existing wall construction in the project area, reinsulated it, and incorporated KERDI-BOARD into the assembly with moisture management in mind. Inside the wine cellar, floor-to-ceiling Carrara marble, custom lighting, and wine racks create a carefully detailed setting for the collection. Concealing the lighting connections and service access was central to the finished appearance. We integrated the lighting and created a discreet access panel that blends into the surrounding work, preserving the clean composition while allowing access behind the finished surface.
Results
A custom eight-foot-tall, floor-to-ceiling glass door with a steel frame and brass handle completes the enclosure. Alongside it, we constructed the fireplace feature wall, installed a gas fireplace, and completed custom tilework to bring the two elements together. Completed in approximately one month, the project transformed an unanchored living room into a space defined by custom craftsmanship. The marble-lined wine cellar, tailored metal-and-glass door, and adjoining fireplace now form a focal point for the entire home.
